Shelly Siegel was recently re-elected to serve a two year term as the MMA Board Secretary.

Shelly_Siegel.pngShelly has served in the role of Secretary since January of 2015. Her service to the association began in 2009 when she became a member of the MMA Scholarship Committee. Soon after, she was appointed to the Board of Directors representing supervisors in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system.

She currently serves as the Chair of the Outreach Committee and has also served three times representing MnSCU on the MMA contract negotiating team. In addition she is the liaison between supervisors and the higher level administration at North Hennepin Community College.

In her statement on why she wanted to serve on the MMA Board of Directors Shelly talked about her Commitment to the Association.

In my youth, I quickly learned the value and importance of employee rights. Over my career, I have had the privilege to work within a variety of labor union contracts. All have shaped my understanding and deep appreciation for collective bargaining.

Without this model, we would not have such benefits as a safe work environment, decent wages, and an employer-paid retirement savings plan, the ability to have guaranteed vacation time and sick leave, and health care to name a few.

Historically, many fought and even gave their lives to establish and secure these rights. I strongly believe that all deserve this type of protection and wish to continue to serve in a leadership role to work to protect these rights. I also believe that the work of the Middle Management Association is social justice. I am deeply committed to issues of equity and inclusion in all aspects of my life, both personal and professional.

We are fortunate to have someone like Shelly who will continue to work extremely hard to preserve and expand the rights of MMA supervisors.
