Update on Labor Contracts and Plans

May 19, 2020 12:08:59 PM

Here is a brief update regarding the status of the labor contracts and plans. Last week, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted to ratify the 2019 - 2021 labor contracts and plans. On Saturday, the Minnesota Senate voted to also ratify the contracts and plans; however, proposed cost-savings modifications to the terms of those agreements (i.e. no 2.5% cost of living increase on July 1, 2020, no step increases). MMA does not support these modifications because our contract was bargained in good faith with Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB). We will continue to advocate our contract be ratified in its original form (this contract can be found on our website).

The legal impact of the Senate’s action is still unclear. MMB is reviewing the actions taken by the legislature and will analyze the legal implications relating to the ratification of the labor contracts. We will receive guidance from MMB after they complete their review. Please continue to follow our website for status updates. We will post information as it becomes available.
